Adapted from the Pathfinder Savant prestige class from Pathfinder’s Seekers of Secrets.
Thaumaturges roam the realm in search of forgotten lore and ancient magical devices. They are specialists in the theory and practice of magic, illuminating mysteries of the eldritch fabric that permeates existence. The path of the thaumaturge brings mastery of the lore of glyphs and sigils, knowledge of exotic spells, and the power to unlock the full potential of magical devices.

Feats: Skill Focus (Arcana), any two metamagic feats.
Skills: Arcana 5 ranks.
Special: Ability to cast 3rd-level arcane spells, including dispel magic.
The thaumaturge’s class skills are Academia, Arcana, Perception, any language.
Skill Ranks at Each Level: 3 per level
The following are class features of the thaumaturge prestige class.
Spells: At 1st level and beyond, a Thaumaturge gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Thaumaturge, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.
Master Scholar (Ex): A Thaumaturge adds 1/2 his class level (minimum 1) as a bonus on all Arcana checks to identify magic items and to determine how to activate a magical device.
Spell Identification (Ex): A Thaumaturge can always take 10 on Arcana checks to identify spells, even if distracted or endangered.
Scroll Master (Su): A 2nd-level Thaumaturge adds his half his Thaumaturge class level to his caster level when determining the maximum scroll level that he can activate.
Improved Dispelling (Sp): At 3rd-level, a Thaumaturge may cast dispel magic once per day as an immediate action without the usually penalty and gains a +2 bonus on the counterspelling check. Magic users who prepare spells in advance must have dispel magic prepared to use this ability. This ability adds another daily use every two class levels.
Metamagic Master (Ex): The thaumaturge adds an additional metamagic feat use once per day for every two levels beyond 4th. At 7th level, the thaumaturge can apply one known metamagic feat per day to a spell as it is cast (without preparing it in advance or without increasing the casting time for spontaneous casters). At 10th level, a thaumaturge may cast one spell per day with any metamagic feat without preparing it in advance or increasing the casting time. The spell must still be of a level that the thaumaturge could normally apply the feat to.
Uncanny Identification (Sp): Starting at 5th level, a thaumaturge may cast identify once per day without preparing the spell in advance. He may do this one additional time per day every two class levels (6th, 8th, 10th).
Silent Activation (Su): A 6th-level thaumaturge is able to activate spell trigger, spell completion (scrolls), and command word (rings and wands) items silently, substituting a magical gesture for the necessary words. He cannot use this ability in circumstances where he could not cast a spell with somatic components. He must know how to activate the item normally for this ability to work.
